Tessa R. Scott

Ms. Scott is a partner in the Business and Commercial Litigation Practice Team, where she handles a broad range of commercial disputes for clients across diverse industries. In her practice, she represents closely held businesses, their owners, and shareholders in matters involving corporate governance, breach of fiduciary duty, shareholder oppression, and business dissolution. She also handles claims concerning breach of contract, employment law, Merchant Cash Advance disputes, commercial torts, and other business litigation.

 

As a member of the Asset Receivable Management and Consumer Financial Services Practice Team, Ms. Scott regularly defends creditors and members of the financial services industry against claims brought pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, and other consumer protection statutes. She also has experience representing clients in investigations commenced by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in enforcement actions. 

 

Ms. Scott serves as Team Co-Leader of the Firm's Electronically Stored Information Practice, where she coordinates large-scale projects involving the analysis and production of electronically stored information. In complex commercial disputes, where the key events, decisions, and communications increasingly exist in digital form (e-mail, text and instant messages, collaboration platforms, cloud-based accounting systems, and associated metadata), electronically stored information has become central to prosecution and defense of business claims. As such, the early identification, preservation, and proportionate production of that information is essential to the efficient and strategic resolution of these cases.

 

Ms. Scott is the Chair of the Firm's Women's Initiative Group and Chair of the Firm's Mentorship Program.
