The Agriculture Practice Team at Lippes Mathias LLP is unique - not just because of the legal talent of the attorneys on the team - but more importantly because several of our attorneys grew up and remain actively involved with their family farm businesses in Upstate New York.  The attorneys on our Agriculture Team understand the challenges and complexities facing farmers today.

With offices in Buffalo and Albany, New York, and Jacksonville, Florida, our Agriculture Practice Team offers farmers and others in the food production industry experienced representation and counsel in lawsuits challenging vague or unconstitutional statutes and regulations, commercial litigation matters, and regulatory compliance/enforcement matters, including but not limited to, workers’ compensation issues, environmental concerns, employment issues, OSHA complaints, and food safety audits.

An example of the type of work our attorneys do for farmers came in December 2019, when our Agriculture Team successfully obtained a temporary restraining order against certain provisions of the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act. The Team will continue to closely monitor the effects that lowering the overtime threshold for farm laborers will have on farms in Upstate New York.

A full-service law firm, Lippes Mathias LLP is also prepared to represent clients in real estate transactions, corporate structuring, immigration compliance - including H2-A visa rules, New York State cannabis compliance, environmental issues, automotive financing, employment disputes, financial restructuring & insolvency, succession planning, and insurance recovery and counseling.

Farmers face many challenges; some, like unpredictable weather, are beyond their control, but many challenges facing farmers today can be effectively managed with the help of knowledgeable attorneys who understand how difficult it is for farmers to be profitable and successful.  The Agriculture Team at Lippes Mathias stands ready to help farmers tackle the array of challenges that confront the modern-day family farm.
