Intellectual Property Attorneys Matthew D. Asbell and Celeste Butera Earn National and Regional Recognition in Managing IP's IP Stars Rankings

Managing IP has recognized Lippes Mathias LLP as a "Trusted Talent Firm" nationally and regionally in New York in its IP Stars rankings, with partners Matthew D. Asbell and Celeste Butera each earning individual distinctions. Asbell, a member of the firm's intellectual property team, received a Trademark Star rating, and Butera, a partner in the firm's intellectual property and litigation practice teams, received a Rising Star rating. Both attorneys were recognized in New York and nationally.

About Matthew D. Asbell
Matthew D. Asbell is a partner and member of Lippes Mathias' intellectual property team. With extensive knowledge and background in information technology, entertainment, medicine, and a range of other fields, Asbell works comfortably and efficiently with clients in diverse industries. His passion for his work in intellectual property arises from a deep appreciation for creativity, whether in the form of invention, design, expression, or branding and marketing. He assists clients in clearing, obtaining, enforcing, and defending trademark, patent, design and copyrights in the United States and throughout the world, while also advising on domain names, social media and related issues.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Asbell developed a broad base of knowledge and expertise in roles he held across various industries, managing emerging singer-songwriters and recording artists, training corporate employees in software applications, and at one point, studying medicine.
Asbell serves as an adjunct professor of law and frequent guest lecturer at Fordham University and The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (Yeshiva University), and has taught at Columbia University and the Instituto Superior de Derecho y Economia (ISDE) in Madrid, Spain. He regularly mentors new lawyers and law students.
Asbell is the host of INTANGIFY, a weekly podcast on the intangible aspects of business. He co-chairs the intellectual property alumni practice group of Cardozo Law and runs the Steadfast group, an international network of intellectual property practitioners. He also chairs and serves as an active member in bar association committees in the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law and the International Trademark Association. Asbell frequently appears in the media to discuss significant cases and topics relevant to his area of practice and regularly authors articles for journals and publications.
About Celeste Butera
Celeste Butera is a partner in the firm's intellectual property and litigation practice teams, where she focuses her practice on litigation and appeals involving trademark infringement, copyright infringement, patent infringement, and other business torts and commercial litigation on a wide array of topics in district courts and federal appellate courts throughout the United States, including trademark and copyright infringement litigation and appeals, internet and website related intellectual property litigation and appeals, unfair competition, Lanham Act claims, false advertising, disparagement, and contract and licensing disputes. She litigates and argues motions and appeals on behalf of companies throughout the United States.
Butera has handled complex appellate matters in appellate courts throughout the country, including the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Fourth, Sixth, Ninth, Eleventh and Federal Circuits. Her practice also includes representing clients in proceedings and appeals through trials before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the Patent and Trademark Office, including opposition and cancellation proceedings. Butera also counsels clients and provides substantive presentations on all aspects of intellectual property and internet law, as well as business torts, breach of contract matters and related liabilities.
Butera has also represented, on a national basis, insurers with respect to a wide range of coverage issues and disputes including issues relating to patent infringement, trademark infringement, copyright infringement, unfair competition, Lanham Act claims, misappropriation of trade secrets, antitrust, as well as a wide variety of other business torts and other coverage issues. She has earned a national reputation as a litigator and appellate lawyer and has been involved in numerous precedent-setting and complex legal actions and appeals in courts throughout the country.
