Lippes Mathias LLP today announced that partner Sean M. O’Brien was honored with the Pro Bono Award from the United States District Court for the Western District of New York (WDNY). O’Brien, who is the leader of the firm’s electronically stored information practice team, received the award at the WDNY 125th Anniversary “It’s a Wrap” Holiday Party on December 4 in Rochester, N.Y. 

The recognition highlights O’Brien’s commitment to providing legal assistance to community members in need. Lippes Mathias’ Pro Bono Advisory Committee actively seeks opportunities for attorneys to offer no-cost legal services to the community. This work includes active involvement in the Erie County Volunteer Lawyers Project and Say Yes to Education – Buffalo’s initiative to hold free legal clinics for families of children in the Buffalo Public School District, among other programs. 

About Sean M. O’Brien

Sean M. O’Brien focuses his practice broadly on commercial matters, municipal matters, and general litigation. He devotes a substantial amount of time defending creditors against individual and class claims that the creditors have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Additionally, O’Brien’s practice extends to white collar criminal defense, regulatory enforcement matters, internal investigations, and complex civil and securities litigation. Prior to joining the firm, O'Brien worked as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department.
