Ashley M. Emery is a Senior Associate in the Albany Office of Lippes Mathias. Ms. Emery focuses her practice on representing public sector labor unions. This includes representation in disciplinary arbitrations and administrative hearings before the New York State Justice Center, assistance with filing contract grievances, filing improper employer practice charges before the New York State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), as well as defending against duty of fair representation claims, and filing complaints with New York State Department of Labor relating to unsafe working conditions. 
 
Ms. Emery also helps public sector labor union members in navigating Civil Service Law leaves of absence and with hearings relating to fitness for duty. Ms. Emery represents employees in appeals before the New York State and Local Retirement System (NYSLRS) and has argued before the Appellate Division, Third Department to challenge an employees’ denied disability retirement benefits.  
 
Ms. Emery works with public sector labor unions and its members to file litigation in State and Federal courts to challenge improper terminations, unfair employment practices, unsafe working conditions, including those related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and violations of members’ constitutional rights, including due process, freedom of speech, and equal protection rights, among various other areas.
 
Ms. Emery also has experience in personal injury and premises liability cases, insurance defense litigation, and veterans benefits law. While in law school, Ms. Emery gained valuable experience through externships with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Appellative Division, Fourth Department. Ms. Emery was also a member of the Buffalo Law Review.
