JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –On Tuesday, April 27, members of Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP’s Construction Litigation Practice Team hosted “Basic Contract Law Every Contractor Should Know,” in collaboration with the North Florida Notifiers. The presentation, which was given to a group of Northeast Florida Contractors, aimed to define the essential components of a firm contract and explain the importance of understanding Florida lien and bond laws to protect contractors and their businesses.
 
During the presentation, Lippes Mathias attorneys Thomas R. Ray, Bethany Ray Reichard and Adam B. Edgecombe shared best practices to be implemented in the following areas:
 
  • Construction Contracts: Eliminating the “Cost of Doing Business.”
  • Florida Lien Law: How to Comply and Ensure Payment.
  • Florida Bond Law: Know How to Protect Your Bond Payment Rights.
 
About the speakers:

Thomas R. Ray
Tom focuses his practice on construction and lien law litigation in state and federal court; surety bond claims; construction defect claims; personal injury, and mediation of Circuit Court disputes. His labor relations and management law experience include defense of wage and hour violation claims, OSHA citations, EEOC discrimination and civil rights claims, wrongful termination, retaliatory termination for filing workers’ compensation claims, ERISA claims, and violations of employment agreements.

Bethany Ray Reichard
Bethany represents defendants and plaintiffs in a range of civil litigation matters, including commercial and contract litigation, tort litigation, fraud, landlord/tenant disputes, collection of past due amounts and accounts, insurance disputes, breach of partnership agreements and all types of litigation in business transactions.

Adam B. Edgecombe
Adam’s practice focuses on business litigation, with an emphasis on commercial litigation, construction litigation, landlord-tenant issues, and creditors’ rights. He has broad experience in residential and commercial lease negotiations and disputes; construction issues, including successfully resolving pre-suit construction lien issues for both construction professionals and homeowners, lien enforcement, and contract disputes between contractors and subcontractors; representation of condominium and homeowners associations, including preservation and prosecution of lien rights and foreclosure defense.
