BUFFALO, NY –Lippes Mathias Partner Ian A. Shavitz participated in a panel presented by Law Seminars International titled “Creating Negotiating Leverage on Environmental Issues: Using Tribal Law to Impose Higher Standards.”
During his portion of the presentation, Ian provided an update on implementation issues and resulting work by the Tribe to improve its code and how the Tribe is working with First Nations in British Columbia to improve the quality of upstream flows through development of their own standards.
Ian A. Shavitz is a Partner and Team Leader of the firm’s Environment and Energy Practice Team, and has more than 20 years of experience counseling and advocating for clients on environmental and land use issues associated with developing large-scale infrastructure, energy, and commercial projects; securing federal, state and local governmental permits and approvals; advising sellers, purchasers, lenders, and investors on environmental issues associated with corporate, real estate and energy transactions; and advocating for favorable policy decisions and legislation before Congress. Ian’s clients have included corporations, municipalities, developers, investors, state and local governments, private equity funds, and Indian tribes.
