Senior Policy Advisor

Christopher Kaumo

Chris Kaumo, a Senior Policy Advisor in Lippes Mathias' Lobbying & Public Policy Practice Team, brings over 20 years of experience in the public sector to his work as a strategic planner and legislative strategist.

Chris spent two decades working for the late Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ). He served as Deputy Staff Director of the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources and as Staff Director of the Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States. His committee work spanned legislation and oversight on tribal sovereignty and self-governance, tribal economic development, tribal land and water rights, and the nation's core environmental laws, including the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act. In his capacity, he was successful in working across the aisle to move legislation both through the Committee and the full House.

Prior to his time on the Committee, Chris served as the Legislative Director and Senior Policy Advisor in Congressman Grijalva's personal office. He led the office's work on tribal issues, telecommunications, financial services and transportation, as well as acting as the office's sole conduit to the Appropriations Committee throughout the appropriations process.

Most recently, Chris was the founder of Synchronicity Strategies LLC, a federal government relations firm representing clients in conservation, telecommunications, housing and infrastructure. In that role, he leveraged his personal and professional relationships to successfully advocate on behalf of his clients with members of the House and Senate, as well as the Administration.

At Lippes Mathias, Chris helps clients understand how Washington D.C. actually works, and where and when they can move the needle to advance their legislative initiatives and policy priorities.
