Berj Parseghian is a partner in the firm’s Environment & Energy Practice Team. Mr. Parseghian is an experienced litigator who concentrates his practice on lawsuits brought under federal and state environmental laws related to contaminated sites, including the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Mr. Parseghian represents energy, chemical, and manufacturing clients in some of the largest and most complex environmental matters across the country. He has significant experience with sites involving dioxins and furans, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), 1, 4-dioxane, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Michigan and graduate studies in chemistry at the California Institute of Technology. 

Prior to joining Lippes Mathias LLP, Mr. Parseghian gained more than 20 years of experience litigating a broad range of complex matters in both courtroom litigation and administrative practice, including environmental, product liability, toxic tort, and energy regulatory matters. He has represented clients in a wide range of industries, including energy, chemicals, consumer products, refining, banking, government, healthcare, and beauty products.

  • Lead counsel for a chemical manufacturer in CERCLA cost-recovery and contribution litigation alleging successor liability for dioxin, furan, PCB and VOC contamination at a Superfund site.
  • Lead counsel for a chemical manufacturer in connection with the investigation and remediation of an accidental release of PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF).
  • First-chair trial counsel for a petroleum refiner in RCRA litigation for alleged petroleum contamination of soil and groundwater.
  • Lead counsel for a chemical manufacturer in CERCLA cost-recovery and contribution litigation alleging successor liability for 1,4-dioxane contamination at a Superfund site.
  • Lead counsel for a petroleum refiner in state court and federal multi-district environmental litigation alleging groundwater contamination from leaking underground storage tanks.
  • Obtained summary judgment for a chemical manufacturer in federal court toxic tort litigation alleging workplace exposure to industrial chemicals.
  • Trial counsel for the State of California in a state court jury trial for fraud and breach of contract arising from an energy purchase agreement.
