Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP attorneys to present to The County Attorneys’ Association of the State of New York on Brownfield topics

BUFFALO, NY– On Monday, December 7, Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP Partners Jennifer C. Persico and Ian A. Shavitz along with Senior Associate Michael L. Nisengard and Senior Environmental Advisor Martin L. Doster, will present at The County Attorneys’ Association of the State of New York’s Virtual 2020 Winter Meeting.

The presentation will provide an overview of New York State’s Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP), an initiative that encourages private-sector cleanups of brownfields and to promote their redevelopment as a means to revitalize economically blighted communities, as well as real estate considerations. 

Ian A. Shavitz, a partner and Lippes Mathias’ Environment & Energy Practice Team Leader, has more than 20 years of experience counseling and advocating for clients on environmental and land use issues associated with developing large-scale infrastructure, energy, and commercial projects; securing federal, state and local governmental permits and approvals; advising sellers, purchasers, lenders, and investors on environmental issues associated with corporate, real estate and energy transactions; and advocating for favorable policy decisions and legislation before Congress.   

Martin L. Doster, Senior Environmental Advisor for the firm’s Environment & Energy Practice Team, advises clients on contamination issues, cleanup requirements, and cost-effective remedial strategies under state and federal Superfund and brownfields programs.  He joined the firm in 2015 following a 32-year career with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he spent the majority serving as the Regional Remediation Engineer for Western New York.

Michael L. Nisengard has over ten years of experience in commercial real estate law representing owners, landlords, tenants, buyers, sellers, borrowers, lenders, and investors in purchases, sales, leases, financing, and title and due diligence review.  He also handles a variety of real property title matters, including negotiating and finalizing easements, covenants, restrictions, rights of way, and other matters granting or restricting land rights as well as any disputes related to these matters.

Jennifer C. Persico is a partner and Lippes Mathias’ Litigation Practice Team Co-Leader.  She has significant experience in municipal law.  Her practice includes assisting municipalities in defending 1983 claims, resolving land use issues, drafting local laws and governance issues.
