Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP Chairman Appointed to UB Council

BUFFALO, NY –Lippes Mathias Wexler Friedman LLP is pleased to announce that Scott E. Friedman, Chairman and CEO of the firm, has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to serve as a member of the Council for the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB Council). Mr. Friedman’s term started on February 26, 2016 and will run through June 30, 2022. The UB Council serves as the primary oversight and advisory body to the University at Buffalo, its president and senior officers.

Established in accordance with New York State Education Law, the UB Council consists of ten members, nine who are appointed to seven-year terms by the Governor, and one student member who is elected to an annual term by the university’s students.

In addition to his leadership role at the firm, Mr. Friedman’s legal work includes providing counsel to entrepreneurs and startup companies and family owned businesses. 

Mr. Friedman has published five books and numerous articles on the topic of family businesses and has developed planning strategies that are now part of the curriculum at the University at Buffalo's Family Business Center where he is an Executive in Residence.

Mr. Friedman is also involved in Next Gen Advisors, LLC, which assists family owned business in fostering strong relationships and bottom line success by integrating and applying insights from the fields of social neuroscience, positive psychology and behavioral economics to his perspective as an attorney. He is also a General Partner in Impact Capital, a new venture capital fund designed to support early stage companies in Western New York.

Mr. Friedman received his J.D. from Washington University School of Law and his LLM from University of Pennsylvania Law School.
