The life sciences industry is a key part of the Buffalo Niagara Community. Dariush Keyhani, recently published "Bulova Wrongly Decided: A Case Against Extraterritoriality of Trademark Law" in the new issue of the Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property. This article looks at how U.S. trademark law has been interpreted by the U.S. Supreme Court to have extraterritorial effects and argues how this interpretation is in tension with existing international intellectual property law frameworks that provide appropriate protections for the legitimate interests of U.S. trademark holders. William E. Mathias received the Distinguished Alumni Award for Business during the Annual Dinner of the University at Buffalo Law Alumni Association on May 3, 2007. In addition to his wide ranging corporate practice, Mr. Mathias was also recognized for his many community activities and continuing service as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council at the Law School. Scott Friedman spoke at a Seminar sponsored by the Western New York Venture Association on November 30, 2006. His presentation was on how to start a life sciences company. Our Senior Managing Partner, Gerald S. Lippes, and Senior Litigation Partner, Sharon M. Porcellio have been recognized by their peers and named to Business First and Buffalo Law Journal's Who's Who in Law 2006. Sharon M. Porcellio and Hon. John T. Curtin reviewed a new eight volume treatise on commercial practice in federal court which was published in the July 17, 2006, issue of the Buffalo Law Journal.
